New Delhi, May 6 (KNN) The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has no scheme for providing financial assistance to set up Khadi and Gramodyog units, Minister of State for MSME Giriraj Singh has said.

KVIC, however, is implementing the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a scheme for setting up micro enterprises in the non-farm sector, he added.

Under this scheme, as many as 3,16,797 applications have been received so far in 2015-16.

In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Singh said, “Funds are released to KVIC under the various schemes being implemented, based on the demand projected, utilization certificate furnished and norms of each scheme.  Physical targets are fixed commensurate with budgetary allocation and the achievements of previous year.”

He said that the government has been making efforts to popularize Khadi amongst the youth and the younger generation and Government/PSU’s employees.
