KVIC organises zonal exhibition to support PMEGP beneficiaries

Mysore, Oct 9 (KNN)  The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is holding a zonal exhibition here to extend support to the beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) by marketing their products.

The 13-day exhibition to be held here from October 11 to 23 will be inaugurated by the MSME Minister K H Muniyappa on October 11.  Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will also be attending the function.

According to the State Director of KVIC, M Jagannadha Rao, PMEGP beneficiaries from the four southern States and Khadi institutions will exhibit their products in 84 stalls during the 13-day exhibition.

There will also be technical demonstrations on pottery, agarbatti and candle-making, khadi spinning and weaving and manufacturing Kolhapuri Chappals.

KVIC has been entrusted with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.

The main objective of the PMEGP, implemented by KVIC, is to bring together widely dispersed traditional artisans/ rural and urban unemployed youth and give them self-employment opportunities to the extent possible, at their place. 

PMEGP aims to increase the wage earning capacity of artisans and contribute to increase in the growth rate of rural and urban employment. (KNN/SD)
