KVIC to assist nine institutions in Bihar

New Delhi, Mar 11 (KNN) Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has tentatively identified nine institutions in Bihar for assistance under the Khadi Reforms and Development Programme (KRDP).
The program which includes the capacity building of 300 Khadi institutions and improvement of marketing is being implemented with the assistance of USD 150 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), an official statement said.
“KVIC has been implementing a credit-linked subsidy programme named Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) since 2008-09 for generating self-employment in the country including Bihar,” said the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), K H Muniyappa in the RajyaSabha recently.
Under PMEGP, margin money subsidy is provided to unemployed youth and traditional artisans for setting up micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector.  On the other hand, the general category beneficiaries can avail of margin money subsidy of 25 per cent of the project cost in rural areas and 15 per cent in urban areas.
With regard to beneficiaries belonging to special categories such as Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), minorities, women, ex-servicemen, physically handicapped,people from North Eastern Region, hill and border areas, the margin money subsidy is 35 per cent in rural areas and 25 per cent in urban area.
The maximum cost of such aproject is 25 lakh in the manufacturing sector and 10 lakh in the service sector. Since its inception, the Government has released a total margin money subsidy of Rs242.08 crore for Bihar under PMEGP until Jan 31, 2013, as per the official statement.
To date, about 7549 micro-enterprises have been assisted, providing employment to an estimated 51,707 persons. (KNN/Gunj)
