KVIC to place 5000 bee boxes in Delhi; starts beekeeping training at Rashtrapati Bhawan

New Delhi, May 18 (KNN) The Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC) in coordination with the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has proposed to place 5000 bee boxes in the national capital.

The proposal lists locations including Lodhi Garden, Talktora Garden, Nehru park and other forest areas in Delhi.

The Gardeners of these parks will be given special training regarding the bee keeping, apiculture equipment, identification and management of bee enemies and diseases, honey extraction and wax purification. Also specialized training will be given to the beekeepers to take care of the cultivation during different seasons of the year.

The KVIC has already launched an apiculture training course for the gardeners at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The beekeeping training will equip the gardeners with appropriate knowledge on honey extraction.  Also 500 bee boxes will be installed in the Rashtrapati Bhawan, which is expected to result in a yield of over 13,000 kgs of high quality honey and 300 of wax annually.

The bee culture in the President’s Estate will boost up the flora and fauna resulting in a rise in the crop productivity. The Estate already has a large number of mango, blackberry, neem and drumsticks trees in the vicinity. (KNN/ DA)
