Large number of overseas carpet buyers attend Carpet Expo to promote rural MSME cottage industry

New Delhi, Mar 13 (KNN) A record number of 152 overseas carpet buyers from around 60 countries registered their presence at the three day long Carpet Industry Expo that came to an end today with an aim to promote rural based Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) cottage industry.

Organized by Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), the Expo intend to encourage the cultural heritage and weaving skills of Indian hand-made carpets, and other floor coverings among the visiting overseas carpet buyers.

Presenting Indian carpets on a global platform, the Carpet Industry Expo has come to an end today.

The India Carpet Expo-New Delhi was an extraordinary event during which carpets, carpet materials, carpet packaging materials, handmade carpets, finished products and floor coverings were showcased.

It showcased products and services from Home Furnishings and Home Textiles, Household Consumables industries.

The visitors were deeply involved in gathering information about the products exhibited and the event also gave huge business opportunities to the presenters.

About 250-300 Exhibitors attended the expo. Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Raghvendra Singh and Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Shantmanu were also present at the event.

Speaking at the event, Singh said, "We are very glad that CEPC organizes this Expo twice every year to promote Indian weavers worldwide. Every year Expo generates a huge amount of business. We have everything handmade and hand weaved here, which is the major attraction to the foreign buyers."

He further appreciated the new innovations and display by the members.

Shantmanu appreciated the efforts made by Chairman and Committee of Administration in organizing India Carpet Expo on such a large scale and expressed hope that the benefit will ultimately go to the artisans and weavers. (KNN/JM)
