New Delhi, May 27 (KNN)  The NDA Government should treat exports as one of the top priority areas to create jobs and to bridge the much-needed trade gap on a sustained basis, said EEPC India Chairman, Anupam Shah.

Congratulating Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and his entire Council of Ministers, Shah said, “The stock market is generally in a state of frenzy. Though not without reason, what should always be borne in mind is that the FII inflows are hot money anywhere in the world. Their inflows and outflows both take place in surges. While India has a potential to absorb such flows, we as a nation must earn our bulk of foreign reserves through exports – both merchandise and services.”

The Chairman of the engineering exporters’ body said that from USD 312 billion, the NDA Government under the leadership of Modi should set a target of achieving exports of USD 800 billion in the next five years even as we focus on import substitution by jacking up domestic capacities in manufacturing.

He expressed confidence that the ministries of finance, commerce and industry will move in one direction of making India as a global manufacturing hub which is possible through improving ease of doing business, reducing transaction costs of the exporter-manufacturers and a vast improvement in infrastructure like roads, ports and airports.

The new Commerce Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, he said, has the opportunity to use the ensuing Foreign Trade Policy to convey in no uncertain terms a clear message about the government being export-friendly.

“Our products should then move up the value chain and be seen and traded all around the world.  The Indian electorate has given us a lifetime opportunity to make India go global with renewed vigour,” Shah said.   (KNN/ES)
