New Delhi, Sept 10 (KNN)  In a disturbing trend, especially for the industry, some states are resorting to load shedding even while electricity is available.

Expressing concern over the development, the Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said “some states are resorting to load shedding even while electricity is available, which leaves a lot of capacity stranded.”

He also asked the states today to restore financial health of their power distribution companies so that the industry and the common man are able to get adequate electricity.

Addressing the state power ministers here, Scindia said, restoring the financial health of the state owned distribution utilities should be the topmost priority of state governments.

“The benefit of the huge generation capacity commissioned and under construction cannot reach the consumers if the Discoms are unable to purchase electricity due to their financial condition,” Scindia said.

Industries in several states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are subjected to frequent load shedding causing big production loss.

Things get worst for the small and medium enterprises that cannot afford the captive power plants and need to resort to expensive diesel run generating sets. (KNN/PC)
