Made-in-India Apple iPhone 14 to be available by end of the year

New Delhi, Sept 9 (KNN) American technology giant Apple will start manufacturing iPhone 14 in India in next 3-4 months to lower its manufacturing dependency on China.

It is also likely that the coronavirus pandemic pushed companies to reconsider heavy reliance on Beijing, reported ET.

Citing two senior industry executives familiar with the development, ET reported that the US-headquartered tech behemoth is hopeful that the made-in-India iPhone 14 smartphones to be commercially available by December, and they will be manufactured at the Foxconn factory near Chennai.

The December quarter is expected to mark Apple’s record shipment of iPhones to India at about 570,000 units as against 370,000 units last year, as per industry executives and experts.

Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, told the financial daily, “Apple’s iPhone 14 is expected to be the largest volume grosser in India amongst the new iPhones launched and hence that is likely to be the model to be first locally produced.”

“Since the selling price is also high, it will help Apple to achieve its production-linked incentive target in India,” he added. Also, the series is likely to account for more than 20-25 per cent of all iPhone sales in the country in the December quarter.

Since the launch of its latest iPhone models, Apple has been gradually been cutting the India manufacturing gap.  (KNN Bureau)
