New Delhi, Oct 16 (KNN) Bringing in some good news for the small flour millers, who supplied ‘maida’ to Maggi, Nestle India said on Friday that all samples of Maggi two-minute noodles had cleared tests mandated by the Bombay high court.

After clearing the tests, Maggi is likely to make a return to the market months after it was banned over the presence of excess lead.

Ban of Maggi in India has not only incurred a huge loss to the company, but it had also hit the small and medium players in India at the ground level incurring a loss of around Rs 4-5 lakhs per month to them.

After, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), on June 5, banned Maggi directing Nestle to immediately withdraw and recall all nine variants of Maggi instant noodles from market, the flour millers started dumping 'maida' into the market at a loss.

Kolhapur based Panchganga Roller Flour Mills, which has been supplying maida to Nestle for nearly 18 years, had told KNN that the flour millers have been hit badly due to the ban.

“We have received test results from all three laboratories mandated by the hon’ble Bombay high court to test Maggi Noodles samples. All the 90 samples, covering six variants, tested by these laboratories are clear with lead much below the permissible limits,” Nestlé said in a statement.

Nestle said it will commence manufacturing the noodles and “start selling only after the newly manufactured products are also cleared” by the three laboratories designated by the high court. Though it did not set a timeframe for this process, Nestle said the noodles would be reintroduced “at the earliest”.

Nestlé further said it conducted more than 3,500 tests, representing over 200 million packs, in national and international accredited laboratories and “all reports are clear”.

“In addition to these, various countries including USA, UK, Singapore, Australia and others have found Maggi Noodles manufactured in India safe for consumption,” the statement said.

Nestlé said it will collaborate with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the food regulator, and other stakeholders. (KNN Bureau)
