New Delhi, Mar 19 (KNN) In an effort to create favorable framework to successfully meet the challenges and opportunities for Indian maize crop, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) is organising the India Maize Summit.

The second edition of the meet will be held on March-20 and 21 here with the theme ‘Road Map for Sustainable Growth and Developing Value Chain’, said a notification.
Secretary, Agriculture, Ashish Bahuguna will inaugurate the event.

The summit aims to get global perspective to aid growth in export of Indian maize, identifying, examining and suggesting reforms to strengthen maize value chain and empower relevant stakeholders with cutting edge technology and post harvest management tools.

Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices Chairman, Ashok Gulati, NCDEX MD and CEO Samir Singh, FICCI Agriculture Committee Co Chairman, Sanjay Kaul and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Minister-Counselor for Agriculture Affairs Allan Mustard are some of the speakers.

Maize holds a prominent position in the country’s agriculture. The increasing use of maize as animal feed, increasing interest of the consumers in nutritionally enriched products and rising demand for maize seed are the driving forces behind emerging importance of maize crop.

A decade ago, just 5-6 per cent of maize was used for industrial purpose and around 50 per cent for feed meal, which has now increased considerably. (KNN/ST)
