India On ‘Reform Express’, National Manufacturing Mission Next Big Push: PM Modi

New Delhi, Dec 29 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India plans to launch a National Manufacturing Mission (NMM) and urged states to make it top priority by creating infrastructure to attract global companies.

Speaking at the national conference of chief secretaries in Delhi, Modi said the mission would focus on ease of doing business, particularly in areas such as land availability, utilities and social infrastructure.

Push for Sectoral Growth

The Prime Minister called upon states to actively encourage manufacturing, improve ease of doing business and strengthen the services sector, reported the Mint.

He stressed that the services sector should give more importance to healthcare, education, transport, tourism, professional services and artificial intelligence to position India as a ‘global services giant.’

Modi said that as India aims to be the food basket of the world. There is a need to shift towards high-value agriculture, dairy and fisheries, with a strong export orientation.

He pointed out that the PM Dhan Dhanya Scheme has identified 100 districts with low agricultural productivity, and called on states to adopt a similar approach in education to address gaps in learning outcomes.

Human Capital as Growth Engine

Emphasising that human capital is the fundamental driver of economic growth and social progress, the Prime Minister said it must be developed through a coordinated whole-of-government approach.

Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, Modi noted that nearly 70 percent of the population is of working age, presenting a unique historical opportunity. When combined with sustained economic progress, this advantage can significantly accelerate India’s journey towards ‘Viksit Bharat.’

He added that India has boarded the ‘Reform Express,’ driven largely by the strength of its young population, and empowering this demographic remains a key government priority.

Quality, Excellence and Tourism Potential

Stressing quality in governance, service delivery and manufacturing, the PM said the ‘Made in India’ label must become a symbol of global excellence and competitiveness.

He also highlighted the potential of tourism to generate livelihoods for youth, noting that India’s rich heritage and history could help it emerge as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
