Core groups comprising officials of different industries having constituted in 11 sectors for supporting the mentor councils which have been formed to “Revitalize the large network of ITIs and centrally funded institutions”. The objective is to ensure that these institutions can provide relevant and employment ready skills to the trainees.

“A proactive partnership between various stakeholders can help bridge the gap between the current state of these institutions, and their desired best-in-class capabilities,” according to Director General of Employment and Training (DGET) in the Ministry of Labour, Shikhar Aggarwal.

Addressing the meeting, Gandhikumar said FISME would be happy to support the government initiative since the changing requirements of the industries implies changing needs for the skill.

The ITIs under the labour ministry have the training capacity of 15 lakh candidates offering courses in a large number of sectors.

However, majority of the institutions suffer from technological obsolescence resulting in the skill gaps. (KNN Bureau)
