Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change to review various Acts

New Delhi, Sept 10 (KNN)  Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has constituted a high level committee to review Acts administered by the Ministry and has invited suggestions from stakeholders who can post their views on the Ministry’s website.

Acts that will be reviewed are Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980; Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972; The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974; and The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, as per an official release.

The high level committee will comprise T S R Subramanian (Chairman), Viswanath Anand (member), Justice (Retd) A K Srivastav (member) and K N Bhat (member).

Among its tasks are to assess the status of implementation of each of the Acts when compared to the objectives; and to examine and take into account various court orders and judicial pronouncements relating to the Acts.

The committee will also recommend specific amendments needed in each of the Acts so as to bring them in line with current requirements to meet objectives; and draft proposed amendments in each of them to give effect to the proposed recommendations.

In this regard, the Ministry has invited Comments/suggestions/views from interest persons/organizations through MoEF web site www.envfor.nic.in  (KNN/ES)
