Ministry of Textiles-CSC to establish one-stop Weavers Service Centers

New Delhi, Aug 8 (KNN) In a bid to accelerate growth in the handlooms sector, Ministry of Textiles announced collaboration with Common Services Centres (CSC) to establish Weavers Service Centres WSC in the country.

These Centres will provide the weavers with different facilities including banking, passport, insurance, PAN card, voter ID and Aadhaar, all under one roof. Also payment of electricity bills can be done through these centres.

The announcements were made at an event during the 3rd National Handloom Day organized by Ministry of Textiles in Guwahati.

The Ministry further informed that as of now over 28 Weavers Service Centers are set up under the Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, functioning in various parts of the country.

Weavers may visit these centres avail technical assistance in relation to their profession.

Also an MoU was signed between Ministry of Textiles and Designers under which reputed designers will collaborate with the handloom weavers on design. The MoU will help the sector with better prospects in the market. 

Officials from the Ministry including Union Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta, Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal were present at the event to appreciate the weavers involved in the Indian handloom industry. (KNN/ DA)
