MNRE makes efforts to ensure energy security

New Delhi, Dec (KNN)  To meet the ever increasing energy requirements, the government has undertaken various measures such as setting up of wind power, solar and biomass projects amongst others, while offering incentives for such initiatives.   

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched the schemes like Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), Generation Based Incentives (GBI) for wind power projects, viability gap funding for solar photovoltaic power projects, build-own-operate model in the field of solar and biomass Power and Intensive resource assessment of solar and wind energy, said an official notification.

Further, to explore the potential of bio energy, the ministry has formulated the schemes such as Biomass Power and Biomass Cogeneration in Sugar Mills, Biogas Power Generation Programme (BPGP), Biomass Gasifier Programme, Waste to Energy Programme, National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP) and Biomass Cogeneration Non-bagasse.

MNRE provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for setting up bioenergy plants, training and awareness building.  It also provides fiscal incentives such as custom and excise duties concession, accelerated depreciation, income tax holiday and preferential tariff for grid connected bioenergy power generation projects.

A target for setting up of about 1.06 lakh family type biogas plants has been fixed in the country for the year 2013-14 under the National Biogas and Manure Management programme (NBMMP) of the ministry.

At the same time, MNRE is providing CFA upto 30 per cent of the Benchmark cost of the equipment in Solar Water Heating systems and Solar Photo Voltaic systems such as solar lanterns, home lights, street lights and standalone PV power plants.

Also, on an ongoing basis, it conducts workshops, present awards and disseminates information to various stakeholders and in public domain to create the awareness.   (KNN/ST)
