MOFPI discusses issues related to food processing sector with industry bodies

New Delhi, Jun 6 (KNN) Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has discussed various issues relating to improving the food processing sector in the country such as tax regime, mega food parks, etc with the industry bodies.

The major issues discussed include investment climate, increasing incomes of farmers, value addition, employment generation, revisiting regulatory regime, rationalisation of fiscal incentives, tax concessions to mega food parks and focussing on perishables, GST, practices in western countries on product approval, role of FSSAI appearing as trade barrier, role of APMC in movement of vegetables and skill development in food processing. 

Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal met the industry representatives from the FICCI and CII here last evening. The Minister assured the industry representatives to look into their suggestions. 

The Indian food processing industry stands at USD 135 billion and is estimated to grow with a CAGR of 10 per cent to reach USD 200 billion by 2015. The food processing industry contributed 7 per cent to India’s GDP and employs 13 million people directly, according to a report. (KNN/SD)
