New Delhi, Apr 17 (KNN) In an effort to boost tourism in the state, the Madhya Pradesh Government has identified four 'mega circuit' projects.

The identified circuit projects are Orchha-Gwalior-Shivpuri-Khajuraho, Indore-Ujjain-Omkareshwar-Maheshwar-Mandu circuit, Jabalpur-Bhedaghat-Mandla-Kanha-Bandhavgarh- Amarkantak and Bhopal-Sanchi-Bhojpur-Bhim Bethka-Pachmarhi.

Among the four, the 410 kms long Gwalior-Orchha- Shivpuri-Khajuraho stretch will be a priority circuit, a media report quoting a MP tourism official said.

Work for the Rs 6,474 lakh Orchha circuit project includes a welcome arch at Tighela (Jhansi-Khajuraho T-point), information signs to indicate ways and distances to the city, conservation of 7 historic heritage buildings, development of budget hotels, expansion of Kanchan Ghat, use of incinerators for solid waste management, strengthening of existing roads leading to Jahangir Fort and development of tourist facilities at Sunset Point.

Other developments include the Khajurao approach road, hospitality and skill development institution, development of Dantala under meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism, Khajuraho cultural village and Kunti dam in Raneh.

Similarly, in Gwalior, the Baija and Katora tanks will be developed, thereby improving MPs infrastructure and tourism.

There is yet another aspect that is bound to draw tourists.  MP has plans to set up a unique wildlife sanctuary with Asiatic cats from Gujarat.

The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the translocation of Asiatic lions from Gujarat's Gir forest to Kuno Palpur sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh to provide a "second home" for the endangered species.

With Palpur Kuno set to get lions from Gir, it would be the only habitat in the world to boast three big cats - the lion, the tiger and the panther, all in one habitat.

Considering that lion tourism is the main attraction for both domestic and international visitors in Gujarat, the state initially did not want to let go the lions and let go its unique position of being the only state in the country to have Asiatic lions.

However, Kuno Palpur is geographically located very close to the renowned Ranthambhor tiger reserve in Rajasthan that attracts sizable foreign and domestic tourists.  Therefore tourists that visit Ranthambhor could also add Palpur Kuno in their itinerary. (KNN)
