Nashik to get artists' village

Nashik, Mar 6 (KNN)  To promote Nashik as a tourist destination for various art forms, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is setting up a Kalagram at Govardhan village, similar to the national capital’s Dilli Haat.

The facility which is expected to be completed in six months will showcase handicrafts, artefacts, food products, food grains of local people in specially erected shops and food stalls.

It will not only encourage local artists and provide them a source of income, but also enable rural artisans to sell their wares to tourists and pilgrims visiting the area; visitors will get a taste of local art and talent.

According to reports the marketplace will be constructed in 4536.38 sq m of the total 2.17 hectares.  The project has been approved by the central government and Rs 10.75 crore has been sanctioned for it.
 
MTDC will also be constructing an administration building, restrooms, dining hall, kitchen and storerooms, a sit-out, three lodging units, one open hall and parking facility.  (KNN/ES)
