National conference on tourism to boost sector

New Delhi, Aug 20 (KNN) With a view to improving the tourism sector in the country by implementing the best practices, the Union Ministry of Tourism is organising a National Conference of State Tourism Ministers in the national capital tomorrow.

The objective for organising the conference is to initiate a high-level discussion on important issues of the tourism sector and to stimulate closer cooperation with all the stakeholders, the Ministry said in a press release.

The conference would provide a platform to the state governments and other stakeholders to discuss and share their experiences and best practices towards making the collective efforts to propel the tourism sector to new heights, the release added.

The day-long deliberations will see the review of centrally financed tourist infrastructure projects, safety and security of tourists, electronic tourist visa on arrival, rationalization of taxes, development of theme based tourist circuits, national mission on pilgrimage rejuvenation and spiritual augmentation drive (PRASAD) , cleanliness , hygiene and sanitation around tourist destinations, capacity building programmes, harnessing technology for delivery of online services and making tourist destinations accessible for differently-abled tourists.

Till date Tourism Ministers of 22 States/UT and Administrators of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep have confirmed their participation in the conference.

Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Shripad Yesso Naik will chair the deliberations while Union Minister for Finance and Defence, Arun Jaitley will be the chief guest. (KNN/SD)
