NDMC launches three outlets which sells environment friendly alternatives for single use plastic

New Delhi,  Oct 3 (KNN) As single use plastic has been banned in India with effect from Oct 2, 2019, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) launched three outlets ‘Saksham Eco Mart’, which sell environment friendly alternatives to single-use plastic such as cloth bags, jute bags, and paper bags.

The outlets located on Kautilya Marg, Niti Marg and Jai Singh Road will be run by women and the products will be made by students and NGOs.

Addressing a gathering at inauguration of an outlet on Kautilya Marg,  NDMC Chairman, Vijay Kumar Dev said “This initiative by the NDMC will help promote entrepreneurship, empowerment and above all financial literacy among women."

Dev appealed to the NDMC to scale up the initiative so that the message of “No use of single plastic” reaches every household in the New Delhi area.

NDMC secretary Rashmi Singh said that the cloth bags and other alternatives will be prepared by students of the Women’s Training Institute and NGOs. All three marts will be run by women working at NDMC Craft Centres.

“The sale proceeds will be used for the welfare of women associated with Saksham Eco Marts,” she added.
