Kochi Feb 5 (KNN) The Coir Industry has demanded for subsidy from the Central Government to install new machines in order to boost exports. As the Union Minister of Micro, small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Kalraj Mishra met the industry representatives in Kerala, they had put up their demands.

KNN caught up the Secretary General of Federation of India Coir Exporters’ Associations Sajan B Nair who said that industry is looking for subsidy from the Government as new machines have to be installed.

We need new spinning machines for the sector, he added.

He welcomed the decision to set up 14 new coir clusters across the country.

The entire nation is witnessing steep fall in exports across the sectors, the secretary said adding that exports from the coir industry is looking progressive and the sector is still better in comparison to others.

Meanwhile, the MSME Minister announced that Coir Board Headquarter will remain in Kochi.

Indian coir industry contributes to the national economy by bringing in foreign earnings through exports, said the Minister. (KNN Bureau)
