Chennai, May 9 (KNN)  In a move, which will help meet the skill shortage in the textile sector, NIFT-TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute in Tirupur is introducing more courses from the current academic.

While addressing a press conference on Thursday, institute chairman CMN Muruganandan said the new courses include BSc (Computer Science), B.Com, BBA and MSc Apparel Fashion Design.

The chairman said that the courses will offer good career options for students and they will have brighter job prospects.

Muruganandan also cited few examples of their alumni who are working in top textile companies in India.

The Institute was established by Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises and industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India.

The institute will also be providing scholarships to the candidates scoring high marks in Plus Two public examinations.

The textile industry has seen a migration of skilled and unskilled labourers to their home towns and villages, as they now find work closer to home. The attrition rate in the sector is around seven to eight per cent. (KNN/SD)
