New skill policy will be in place after govt parleys are over: Sonowal

New Delhi, Sept 22 (KNN) The Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports has intensified the exercise of consultations with 20 odd ministries of the central government to obtain their inputs for the new skill policy following call from the Prime Minister to Make India a hub for world manufacturing.

Disclosing this at a National Seminar on Skill India under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday, the Minister of State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports Sarbananda Sonowal also informed that the government has also deepened its engagements with countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea to obtain their skilful methodologies to be made applicable in training Indian youth for jobs and jobs creation.

Without disclosing a particular timeframe by which the new skill policy would be unveiled in public domain, the Minister said that the new policy will be finalized after its consultation processes with other government departments are accomplished and necessary endorsements received from the top notch of the government.

Speaking on the occasion the Director (Vocation Education) of CBSE, MVV Prasada Rao said that despite best efforts of the Board to promote and propagate the vocation education at the secondary level, only 5-8 per cent of secondary schools across the country are imparting the vocation training to the students.

Rao lamented that the board has been facing resistance from the school heads, their faculties and parents of the students against its efforts to popularize vocation education which is defeating the objective of the CBSE.

Among others who spoke on the occasion comprised President and Vice President of the PHD Chamber Sharad Jaipuria and Mahesh Gupta as also the CEO and MD of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Dilip Chenoy. (KNN Bureau)
