NFDB conducts workshop to promote fisheries sector in NE states

Guwahati, Aug 31 (KNN) The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying organised a day-long workshop to discuss problems faced by fisheries sector entrepreneurs and private investors in accessing bank finances.

The workshop was held with bankers in eastern and north-eastern States on Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and Entrepreneurship model under PMMSY. It was held at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati on Tuesday.

“Over 70 participants attended the workshop which included the participation of higher officials from 15 scheduled banks and 7 Regional Rural Banks of eastern and north-eastern region, officials from 8 state fisheries department, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders,” stated a press release.

The Government of India had launched the FIDF scheme in 2018 to create fisheries infrastructures both in the marine and inland fisheries sector with an aim to increase fish production in the country.

The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was launched in 2020 by the Prime Minister with a budget of over Rs 20,050 crore for a period of five years. PMMSY aims to achieve fish production of 22 MMT by 2024-25 and to create an additional employment opportunity for about 55 lakh people through this sector.  (KNN Bureau)
