New Delhi, Oct 11 (KNN)   To provide a business incubation centre for budding entrepreneurs belonging to the food processing industry, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) wants to setup six pilot plants related to different areas at its campus in Sonepat District of Haryana.

NIFTEM, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, will set up the pilot plants at Kundli for – fruits and vegetable processing, dairy processing, processing of meat and poultry products, grains and cereals, bakery, and ready to eat traditional foods.

The project will provide a vital source for food companies that are just starting up or evaluating new processes or product lines.

The plants will give research facilities to the food industry for development of innovative products and processes as well as modification of existing products.

The pilot plant “should be ideal for the evaluation of new ingredients, formulations, and processes on a small and medium scale production and demonstration,” NIFTEM said in a notification.

With the help of the plants, the upcoming entrepreneurs can deliver quality from a full scale production line.

Also, training will be provided to students and industry personnel along with the facility to work and conduct research in an operating production facility.

In this context, NIFTEM seeks consultants for conceptualization and commissioning of its six different pilot plants.

Investments in the Indian food processing sector grew at 20 per cent per annum in five years and the total investment at present is estimated at Rs 150,000 crore, employing over 100 lakh people.

NIFTEM is an apex institution in the field of food technology and management, networking and coordinating with other institutions in the same field.
