Noida power discom to buy power at commercial rates

Noida, Jun 2 (KNN) Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) is seeking to buy power at commercial rates in the wake of the state reeling under severe power crisis.
NPCL, a distribution licensee operating in Greater Noida, has called for bids from generators, captive power plants, licensed power traders, state utilities and distribution licensees for procurement of power on short term basis from June to September this year, an official notification said.
Last week, Uttar Pradesh power distribution companies had sought the extension of regulatory surcharge even as most of the districts of the state have been reeling under massive load-shedding with people battling without electricity for 18-20 hours.
The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and the four state distribution companies – Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited had filed a petition in the matter of extension of applicability of regulatory surcharge before the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC).
The Commission has proposed to hold a public hearing on June 3 here.
Meanwhile, Union Power Minister, Piyush Goyal, who took charge said UP can improve power availability by buying it from the power exchange.
"There is enough power available in the Exchange for the UP government to buy, just the way they bought it before elections. They can buy it now. I urge the Chief Minister of UP to stop making excuses. There is no shortage. Only one state-run plant has failed which should be restored in 24 hours," said a media report quoting Goyal.
However, state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had said that his government was taking steps to normalize the situation and was receiving less quantity from the Centre – 4200 MW instead of 6002 MW.
Even as political parties have been busy trading charges, the household consumers and industrial users have been facing the brunt of the summer heat.
Uttar Pradesh is presently reeling under excess power cuts of 10 hours or more in some places. The industries are facing huge production losses due to the power crisis in the state. (KNN/ES)
