Number of Khadi Artisans benefiting from 'Wokshed Scheme' increased massively in AP, says Gadkari

New Delhi, Mar 6 (KNN) Union Minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) Nitin Gadkari has said that 118 Khadi Artisans benefited in Andhra Pradesh as on January 31.

'As on January 31, 2020, as many as 118 Khadi Artisans benefited under 'Wokshed Scheme' in the state of Andhra Pradesh in the last four years.

While in the year 2008-09, the number was merely 20, in the year 2017-18 the number increased to 113, Gadkari has informed the Lok Sabha.

The Ministry of MSME, through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), extends financial assistance to Khadi Institutions for construction of Worksheds to Khadi artisans under “Worksheds Scheme for Khadi Artisans”.

The scheme was introduced in 2008-09. It envisages providing sufficient space and congenial environment to artisans for smooth and fatigue free working that could lead to enhance production and increased earning.

Under the scheme, the area provided for the construction of individual worksheds is 20 square meters and the amount of assistance is Rs. 60,000 or 75 per cent of the cost of worksheds (90 per cent for NER), whichever is less.

For construction of group worksheds (Minimum 5 and Maximum 15 artisans), the area provided for them is 10 square meters per artisans and the amount of assistance is Rs 40,000 per artisans or 75 per cent of the cost of worksheds (90 per cent for NER), whichever is less.
