CRCL Partners With IIT Delhi To Boost Customs Testing & Trade Facilitation

New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) The Central Revenues Control Laboratory (CRCL) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance India's customs operations and trade facilitation capabilities.

CRCL, which serves as the apex scientific institution under CBIC within the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, will leverage IIT Delhi's research ecosystem to enhance its analytical capabilities and regulatory efficiency.

Under the partnership framework, the two institutions will focus on developing enhanced scientific capabilities through the modernisation of CRCL's analytical infrastructure.

This includes implementing trace-level detection technologies and deploying high-end instrumentation systems that will improve the accuracy and speed of customs testing procedures.

The collaboration will also establish comprehensive capacity-building programs, incorporating joint training sessions, workshops, and technical exchanges designed to enhance the skills of customs chemists and officers in emerging fields such as nanotechnology, materials science, and forensic chemistry.

Innovation in customs testing procedures forms a central component of the partnership, with both institutions committed to developing rapid testing protocols and automated screening methods.

The MoU establishes several specific operational objectives, including conducting joint research on customs-related testing challenges and regulatory science applications.

The partnership will facilitate technology transfer and deploy advanced analytical techniques across CRCL and its network of regional laboratories.

Both institutions will co-develop standard operating procedures, reference materials, and comprehensive analytical databases to support consistent testing practices nationwide.

The partnership will also establish Centers of Excellence in critical areas including narcotics analysis, environmental monitoring, and quality assurance systems.
