GCCI urges govt to extend deadline for ITR filing to August 31

Ahmedabad, July 26 (KNN) The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is urging the union government to extend deadline for filing income tax (I-T) returns for states effected by flash floods.

GCCI is demanding that the deadline for filing income tax (I-T) returns by salaried and non-corporate (not subject to audit) taxpayers be pushed back to August 31 from July 31, the last date for submitting tax audit reports be made October 31 and the deadline for income tax returns of those subject to audit be deferred to November 30.

In a representation to Sanjay Malhotra, the Union revenue secretary, GCCI president Ajay Patel said, “The unprecedented monsoon season has caused extensive damage to homes, infrastructure and agricultural land, severely affecting the lives and livelihoods of numerous citizens. The effect of these natural calamities has been severe, leading to widespread power cuts and substantial disruptions in internet facilities, particularly in rural areas.”

“The heavy rain and flooding have caused damage to power transmission infrastructure, resulting in frequent power cuts in various parts of the country. Strong winds, heavy rainfall and flooding have damaged optical fibre cables, mobile towers and other network infrastructure,” it said.

Due to the lack of stable internet connections, taxpayers in rural areas are finding it difficult to file their income tax returns and comply with tax audit requirements within the original deadlines.  (KNN Bureau)
