Govt launches marketing and logistics development scheme to promote tribal products of NE region

Imphal, Apr 19 (KNN) The Union minister of tribal affairs Arjun Munda launched a “Marketing and Logistics Development for Promotion of Tribal Products from North -Eastern Region (PTP-NER)” scheme in Imphal on Tuesday.

The PTP-NER scheme will help strengthen livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans through increased efficiency in procurement, logistics and marketing of tribal products from northeastern states.

The scheme was launched in the presence of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

Addressing the occasion, the tribal affairs minister said that government has launched the scheme in line with One District One Product initiative, which would provide logistics and marketing support to the tribal artisans so they could sell their products to the open market and develop their products with the time.

As per reports, the government has allocated Rs 143 crore budget for the implementation of the scheme.

Under the PTP-NER, the Central government will organize Tribal Artisans Melas (TAMs) in April and May to showcase tribal products, the minister informed.

Agriculture ministers of Meghalaya and Manipur Ampari Lydoh and Th Bishwajit, Manipur tribal affairs and hills minister Letpao Haokip were among other dignitaries who attended the event.  (KNN Bureau)
