IndiaAI Mission Selects 20 Indigenous AI Model Proposals, Including 12 LLMs & 8 SLMs: Govt to Parliament
New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) The Government has identified 20 indigenous sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) model proposals for support under the IndiaAI Mission, comprising 12 Large Language Models (LLMs) and eight Small Language Models (SLMs).
The information was provided by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The Government is supporting Indian startups and institutions in developing indigenous AI models, including Sarvam AI’s 30-billion and 105-billion parameter models, Gnani.AI’s speech-to-speech model, BharatGen’s multilingual foundation models and Avataar AI’s video generation model.
Under the affordable compute pillar, 15 compute service providers have been empanelled, 237 projects have been supported and 93.18 lakh GPU hours have been sanctioned. The IndiaAI Mission has also supported 62 AI prototypes and the deployment of 20 AI-based solutions.
A total of 686 AI fellowships have been awarded across 178 institutions, while more than 26.5 lakh individuals have completed the YUVA AI for All programme. The Government has also established 27 India Data and AI Labs, with work underway on 188 additional labs.
The Government has approved the establishment of 58 AI Centres of Excellence across States and Union Territories. Under the Safe and Trusted AI pillar, 13 responsible AI projects have been selected in areas including bias mitigation, explainability, privacy-preserving AI, deepfake detection, AI forensics and generative AI security.
