Indian Railways Strengthens Safety with Rs 140 Crore Kavach Expansion In Gujarat

New Delhi, Jun 15 (KNN) Indian Railways has approved a Rs 140 crore project for the installation of Kavach Version 4.0 across 598 route kilometres and 48 block sections in the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway, further expanding the deployment of the indigenous train protection system in Gujarat.

The project has been sanctioned under Indian Railways’ programme for providing Kavach with an LTE-based communication backbone on the remaining sections of the railway network.

With this approval, the remaining routes in the Ahmedabad Division will be brought under the Kavach system. Earlier, Kavach implementation had already been sanctioned on about 702 route kilometres in the division.

Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system designed to improve rail safety by preventing Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD) incidents, automatically applying brakes in unsafe situations, regulating train speeds under critical conditions and reducing the risk of collisions.

The project is part of Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to enhance operational safety and modernise train operations through the wider adoption of advanced indigenous technologies.
