India's Pharma Sector Grows 7.8 per cent in April 2025

New Delhi, May 19 (KNN) India's pharmaceutical industry witnessed a significant 7.8 per cent year-on-year growth in April 2025, with total sales reaching Rs 19,711 crore.

This surge is attributed to strategic government policies emphasising affordability, innovation, and inclusivity.

A key contributor to this growth is the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), which provides quality generic medicines at affordable prices through over 9,000 dedicated stores across the country.

These stores offer medicines at prices 50–90 per cent lower than branded equivalents, ensuring accessibility for low-income households.

India continues to solidify its position as a global leader in generic medicine production, supplying approximately 20 per cent of the world's generic medicines.

The country's pharmaceutical exports were valued at USD 25.3 billion in the fiscal year 2022–23, with major markets including the US, UK, European Union, and Canada.

The government's focus on expanding the network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras and promoting the use of generic medicines has not only enhanced domestic healthcare accessibility but also strengthened India's pharmaceutical footprint globally.

With continued policy support and innovation, the sector is poised to reach a market size of USD 130 billion by 2030.
