Industries In Noida-Ghaziabad Region Reeling Under Extended Power Cuts

Noida, May 28 (KNN) Industrial operations across Ghaziabad and Noida have experienced significant disruption due to frequent power outages lasting between one and seven hours, with entrepreneurs reporting substantial financial losses amid soaring temperatures and recurring infrastructure failures.

The situation has intensified following severe weather events, particularly affecting manufacturing sectors dependent on continuous power supply.

The power disruptions have affected numerous industrial clusters throughout the region.

Industry representatives attribute the recurring power failures to aging infrastructure, citing frequent faults in cables, feeders, and transformers that become particularly problematic during adverse weather conditions.

The aging power distribution network has proven vulnerable to storm damage, resulting in cascading failures across the industrial zones.

Manufacturing operations have faced multiple operational challenges due to the power instability.

Production schedules have experienced significant delays, while companies have incurred labor costs without corresponding output.

Material wastage has emerged as a critical concern, particularly for plastic molding units where hot plastic materials solidify in equipment nozzles during power interruptions, rendering the materials unusable and requiring costly replacement.

Despite official designations as no power cut zones, most industrial areas in Ghaziabad continue to experience daily outages.

These disruptions frequently extend to five or six hours following rainfall or thunderstorm events, contradicting the protected status these zones are supposed to maintain.

Ghaziabad houses over 35,000 industrial units, with Sahibabad Site 4 representing one of the most severely affected areas.

Charanjeet Singh, President, Sahibabad Industries Association, reported that industries in the area have experienced daily power cuts averaging 2.5 to 3 hours over the past month, accompanied by persistent voltage fluctuations and power tripping incidents.

Singh provided specific details regarding the financial impact, stating that the cumulative losses have reached approximately Rs 100 crore over the recent period.

Similar concerns have been raised in Noida, where power outages have increased in frequency since the onset of summer temperatures.

Harish Joneja, Senior Vice President, Noida Entrepreneurs Association, reported that prolonged breakdowns occurred in multiple sectors following Sunday's storm, which damaged feeder number 4 poles at the Phase 2 substation.

Joneja highlighted the operational constraints facing manufacturers, noting that National Green Tribunal restrictions on generator usage mean production must halt completely during power outages.

Plastic manufacturing units face particular vulnerability, as material solidification during power interruptions results in complete product loss.

Power distribution authorities have acknowledged the infrastructure challenges and outlined ongoing improvement efforts.

Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chief Engineer, Noida Power Department, confirmed that infrastructure development work is proceeding under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
