MoD Signs Rs 1,476 Crore Contract with BEL For Mobile Electronic Systems
New Delhi, May 5 (KNN) The Ministry of Defence has signed a Rs 1,476 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of five ground-based Mobile Electronic Systems for the Indian Army, aimed at enhancing operational capabilities and strengthening indigenous defence production.
The contract, awarded under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, was formalised today.
The project mandates a minimum indigenous content of 72 percent.
The systems are expected to contribute to the modernisation of Army units by enhancing electronic capabilities in operational environments. The procurement is also seen as a step towards bolstering the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The development aligns with the government’s broader push for self-reliance in defence production under initiatives such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, with a focus on increasing domestic value addition and reducing import dependence.
