Over 4 Million Artisans Enrol in PM-'Vishwakarma' Scheme

New Delhi, Jan 22 (KNN) The PM-‘Vishwakarma’ scheme, with the objective of linking Indian artisans to domestic and global supply chains, has garnered registrations from approximately 4.78 million people.

Launched in September 2023, the Vishwakarma scheme is fully funded by the Centre, with a substantial allocation of Rs 13,000 crore.

Among the registered participants, 0.77 million have completed level 1 verification, 0.33 million have successfully undergone the second stage verification, and 0.14 million applications have progressed to level three verification. Notably, 0.13 million applications have been fully registered.

Analysts foresee the 'PM Vishwakarma Scheme' as having the potential to elevate the Indian craft sector into a multi-billion-dollar marketplace, provided it receives the necessary support and conducive business environment.

Under this scheme, each artisan is entitled to recognition through a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card. Additionally, participants benefit from skill up-gradation through basic and advanced training programs, a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, collateral-free credit support up to Rs 1,00,000 in the first tranche, and Rs 2,00,000 in the second tranche, all at a concessional interest rate of 5 per cent. During training periods, artisans receive a daily allowance of Rs 500.
