PM Modi Holds AI, Deeptech Roundtable; Stresses Data Governance & Indian-Language AI Tools
New Delhi, Feb 20 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a roundtable with CEOs of AI and deeptech startups at Seva Teerth, engaging with innovators working on large-scale challenges across sectors.
Congratulating the founders for developing impactful solutions, the Prime Minister underlined the potential of AI in agriculture and environmental protection. He pointed to applications such as monitoring crop productivity and fertiliser use to safeguard soil health.
Emphasising the importance of Indian languages and culture, he called for expanding AI tools in higher education in mother tongues. He also stressed the need for strong data governance, cautioned against misinformation, and urged the development of solutions tailored to India’s specific requirements.
Referring to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a model of scalable digital innovation, he encouraged greater trust in domestic technologies.
Startups Showcase Sectoral Applications
The participating startups are deploying AI-driven solutions across healthcare, agriculture, cybersecurity, space and enterprise productivity.
In healthcare, companies are advancing diagnostics, gene therapy and digital patient records to improve access to quality care, particularly in remote areas. In agriculture, firms are using geospatial and underwater intelligence to enhance productivity and manage climate risks.
Other ventures are developing tools for ethical AI, improving access to justice and education in Indian languages, and modernising legacy systems to improve efficiency.
Together, they reflect a growing ecosystem addressing domestic priorities while building global capabilities.
Industry Perspective
Startup leaders highlighted India’s sustained efforts to strengthen its AI ecosystem, noting rapid growth and significant untapped potential.
They said global AI momentum is increasingly shifting towards India and described the India AI Impact Summit as a sign of the country’s expanding role in global AI discussions.
