Quality Control Order to be notified for fasteners in India

Ludhiana, July 25 (KNN) The Fastener Industry has welcomed the centre’s decision to introduce the Quality Control Order (QCO) for the industry.

With QCO in order, it will now become very tough to import ‘inferior’ quality of products from China and other countries, due to which the local factories were facing huge problems with their sales taking a hit, reported TOI.

Speaking about the government’s decision to introduce QCO for the industry, Narinder Bhamra, president of national-level Fasteners Manufacturers’ Association said, “It is a historic moment for the fastener industry as our demand for QCO has finally been accepted by the central government.”

“The department for promotion of industry and internal trade has issued orders, which have been notified via a gazette. As per the QCO, several standards and specifications have been fixed for bolts, nuts and fasteners being manufactured in the country or those imported from abroad. Besides, the certification from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a must for manufacturing and sale of fasteners,” he said.

Bhamra also informed that the orders will have to complied by the micro units in 12 months, while for small units the time has been fixed as nine months, and for other categories they have to comply within six months from July 21, the date of publication of the order.

Currently, the cheap quality of these products are being dumped into Indian markets which are 15-20 percent cheaper than locally made fasteners, and this has eaten up our share of sales.  (KNN Bureau)
