UIDAI Ensures Aadhaar Data Security With Multi-Layered Cyber Measures

New Delhi, Dec 17 (KNN) The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the largest biometric identity system with around 134 crore Aadhaar holders, has implemented multiple measures to safeguard the personal data of Aadhaar number holders.

The system has completed over 16,000 crore authentication transactions, with no reported breach of data from the UIDAI database to date.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on 17 December 2025, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Jitin Prasada, stated that UIDAI has adopted a multi-layered security infrastructure based on the defence-in-depth concept, continuously reviewed and audited to maintain robust data protection.

Advanced encryption technologies safeguard data during transmission and storage.

The authority’s Information Security Management System is ISO 27001:2022 certified, and its Privacy Information Management System holds ISO/IEC 27701:2019 certification.

As a protected system, UIDAI receives continuous guidance from the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) to maintain cybersecurity posture.

An independent audit agency oversees the Governance, Risk, and Compliance and Performance (GRCP) framework for the Aadhaar ecosystem.

UIDAI regularly conducts cybersecurity audits, including Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), ensuring adherence to security and privacy standards.
