Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024 Becomes Operational Form Jan 1, Replacing Raj Era Aircraft Act

New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) In a significant overhaul of India's aviation regulations, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, is set to take effect on January 1, 2025, replacing the nine-decade-old Aircraft Act of 1934.

The new legislation, recently approved by Parliament, aims to modernise the regulatory framework governing one of the world's fastest-growing civil aviation markets.

The Central Government's notification, issued on Tuesday, marks a watershed moment for India's aviation industry.

The comprehensive law seeks to streamline the design and manufacturing of aircraft within India while simultaneously enhancing operational efficiency in the aviation sector.

This reform comes as a response to the evolving needs of India's burgeoning aerospace industry, which has seen the previous law undergo 21 amendments since its inception.

Under the new Act, regulations will encompass a broad spectrum of aviation activities, including design, manufacture, maintenance, possession, use, operation, sale, and both export and import of aircraft and related components.

The legislation's primary objective is to eliminate redundancies that have accumulated over nearly a century, providing a more coherent and contemporary legal framework for the aviation sector's continued growth and development.

The timing of this regulatory modernisation is particularly significant, as India positions itself as a major player in the global aviation landscape.

The new law reflects the government's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the aerospace sector while maintaining robust safety and operational standards.
