Over 40,000 youth to get training at upcoming defence & aerospace CoE in Nagpur

Nagpur, Aug 23 (KNN) The Vidarbha Defence Industries Association in collaboration with the Yantra India Ltd (DPSU) is setting up a global centre of excellence in defence, aerospace in Nagpur to nurture skills of youth in this field.

The centre of excellence and centralized facility centre will be setup at the Yantra Institute of Technology and Management and common facility centre at factory learning institute located at ordinance factory in Amabazari, Nagpur.

As per reports, the UDAN Aero Defence Centre of excellence is expected to train over 40,000 persons in five years. This will allow the skilled persons to support SMEs around Nagpur at Nirman Centre in the field of Reverse Engineering, Prototyping, Product Development etc.

Speaking about the joint collaboration, Dushyant N Deshpande from VDIH said that ‘The entire ecosystem will become the epicentre of development in Aerospace, Aviation and Defence. Initially we proposed to utilize the YITM infrastructure, which shall be utilized for creating UDAN-skill development centre and subsequently NIRMAN-integrated manufacturing cum centralized facility centre will be established within existing setup of Ordnance Factory Ambhajari.”

With reference to the proposal to set up common facility centre at Nagpur, the Department of Industries, Energy, Labour had sanctioned Rs. 30 Crores to VDIA Nirman Cluster.

Chairman and Managing Director of Yantra India Limited IOFS Rajeev Puri highlighted that “main objective of this project is to provide skill development and on job training facilities to nurture the skills of local population in the field of Defence& Aerospace and ensure that the population becomes employable.”

For the establishment of the UDAN- Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Aerospace and Defence, the SDED and MSSDS had sanctioned Rs. 63 Crores as grant to Special Project under PMKVY G.R SDED 2018/P.No1/Mission-1 Dt 30th May2019.  (KNN Bureau)
