Over 5,000 startups are linked with biotech sector: PM Modi

New Delhi, June 9 (KNN) More than 5,000 startups are associated with biotech from the 70,000 startups that are established in about 60 different industries, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing an event on Thursday he said that in the last 8 years, the number of startups in our country has increased from a few hundred to 70,000.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the Biotech Startup Expo 2022 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Highlighting the growth of the sector, he said that India’s biotech sector is on its way to enter the list of top 10 countries in the global ecosystem.

Calling the biotech sector as one of the most demand driven sectors, he said that India's 'bio economy' has grown eight times in the last eight years and has reached USD 80 billion from USD 10 billion.

The Prime Minister also noted the contribution of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) the organiser of the expo in the development of the sector in the country.

He further said, today when the country is taking new pledges during the Amrit Kaal, role of biotech industry is very significant in the development of the country.  (KNN Bureau)
