Performance of Commodity Boards in supporting Plantation Sector discussed

New Delhi, Jan 6 (KNN) The Consultative Committee meeting of the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry was held to discuss the “Performance of Commodity Boards in supporting Plantation Sector in India”.

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman Chaired the meeting.

The members present in the meeting were apprised about the plantation sector in India including the performance of Tea Board, Coffee Board, Spices Board and Rubber Board in development of the sector.

The recent initiatives taken by the Government and the Commodity Boards such as mitigating adverse effects of climate change by extending Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Revenue Insurance Scheme for Plantation Sector for protecting plantation growers from the twin risks of weather and prices.

Further, the concerted efforts taken towards promotion of organic farming and development of quality standards of commodities were also discussed.

It was attended by Members of Parliament Dinesh Trivedi, Jyoti Dhurve, Ajay Sancheti, Naresh Gujral and Vayalar Ravi. The officers of the Department of Commerce and head of the Plantation Commodity Boardswere also present in the meeting. (With PIB Inputs)
