“The strong regulatory support is essential for enhancing RPO compliance since long term renewable purchase obligation trajectory needs to be established to facilitate renewable energy development,” a statement from the chamber said.
In view of increasing imports to meet India’s energy needs, the chamber has suggested that consistent policies ought to be firmed up only after due consultation with all stake holders including regulatory bodies to timely execute non-conventional energy projects as optimum harnessing of such projects will be the future priorities of the successive governments.
Executive director of the chamber Saurabh Sanyal said the ministry should create enabling conditions for domestic renewable players to enable them to realise the anticipated solar boom so that solar capacities to an extent of 20,000 mw are added by 2022.
A predictable and staggered local demand through the years is the key to drive down the cost of non-conventional power plants and promote indigenization with additional investments which would also amount to increased local innovation, he said. (KNN/ST)
