The survey will cover manufacturing units, many of which are of interest to micro, small and medium enterprises like agro and food processing, automobiles and auto components, gems and jewellery, leather and leather products, textiles, according to the Chamber.
The Indian Government has taken numerous measures to promote the manufacturing industry, and in 2011 it had launched the National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) to give a further boost to this sector.
However, despite initiatives undertaken by the Government of India, the sector has been suffering with various constraints such as easy access to finance, technological upgradation, infrastructural support, complex regulatory system, high import duty, high incidence of direct taxes and low operating efficiency.
The manufacturing sector contributes 15.24 per cent of the country’s GDP, and provides employment to over 6 million persons. (KNN)
