Piyush Goyal Announces Testing Facilities, Export Push to Strengthen India's Toy Manufacturing
New Delhi, Jul 6 (KNN) The government will establish modern testing facilities across toy manufacturing clusters and extend support for overseas market expansion under the Export Promotion Mission to strengthen India's toy industry, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced on Sunday.
Addressing the 17th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition 2026 in New Delhi, Goyal said the testing infrastructure will be developed through the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), National Test House and other government and semi-government laboratories.
He also called for the establishment of Centres of Excellence for testing, product development, innovation and design through public-private partnerships.
The Minister urged manufacturers to adopt advanced technologies such as CAD-CAM and CNC machining, strengthen skill development through partnerships with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and focus on sustainable manufacturing to improve global competitiveness.
Highlighting the sector's performance, Goyal said toy exports have increased by 239 per cent over the past four years, while imports have declined by 32 per cent.
He said more than 50 toy clusters have been established across the country under the National Toy Action Plan, with nearly 21,000 MSME units engaged in toy manufacturing.
According to the Minister, imports now account for only Rs 2,500-3,000 crore in India's estimated Rs 18,000 crore toy market, with domestic manufacturers meeting the majority of demand.
Goyal also encouraged manufacturers to utilise opportunities created by India's Free Trade Agreements, including the India-UK FTA, which comes into force on July 15, and expand exports to developed markets.
The exhibition featured over 400 Made-in-India toy brands, attracted more than 15,000 business visitors, and saw participation from over 50 countries.
