Planning Commission seeks young professional to develop handloom and handicrafts sector

New Delhi, Aug 6 (KNN)  In an effort to develop and promote the handloom and handicrafts sector, the Village and Small Enterprises (VSE) Division of the Planning Commission seeks the services of a young professional.

The expert will need to have knowledge of government policies and regulations to be able to deal with issues related to the handloom and handicraft sectors so as to promote the sector, said an official notification.

The VSE division normally receives proposals from various ministries, states, public sector undertakings, industry association and individuals.  The professional will need to examine and appraise those proposals and respond to queries concerning policies, programmes and investments.

Further, the young professional will be entrusted with the task of reviewing and monitoring of programmes of the concerned ministry or department that relate to the handloom and handicrafts sector.

Also, he/she will need to assist senior officers in the commission in the formulation of the Annual, Five Year and long-term perspective plans including policies relating to the sector; and in connection with the Parliament and its committee.

Village and small enterprises division comprises of village and small industries (VSI) and food processing industries which are divided into sub sectors such as small scale industries, khadi, village industries, coir, handlooms, powerlooms, handicrafts, sericulture, wool development, food processing industries.

While the small scale industries are looked after by the Ministry of small scale Industries and khadi, village industries and coir are covered by the Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries. 

On the other hand, sub sectors like handlooms, powerlooms, handicrafts, sericulture and wool development come under the purview of the Ministry of Textiles; while food processing industries are looked after by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

Programmes and schemes prepared by the implementing Ministries/Departments, Five Year Plans and Annual Plan for Central and State sectors pertaining to VSI are examined and approved by the Planning Commission.  Review of existing schemes and zero-based budgeting exercise are carried out with a view to merging or weeding out of the schemes, those that have achieved their targets or less effective in the present scenario.  Comments on drafts, policies, cabinet/EFC notes, etc are also prepared in the division.  (KNN/ES)
