New Delhi, July 20 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the National Career Service portal at the 46th session of Indian Labour Conference and said changes in labour laws will be attempted through consensus building with labour organisation.

The portal aims to bring on board around 20 million job seekers already registered with employment exchanges across India. It also aspires to bring 900,000 establishments and companies on the portal. Currently, more than 44.7 million job seekers are registered with India’s 956 employment exchanges. Of them, at least 26.88 million are men and women below the age of 29, according to official data.

While addressing the inauguration of 46th session of Indian Labour Conference, PM Modi said giving opportunities to apprentices is the need for the hour.

“There is a wrong habit which has crept in, we do not respect our labour enough,” he said adding that as a society, “we need to respect the Dignity of Labour”.

Modi further said, “It is my effort to simplify the laws so that even the poorest are able to understand their rights and avail them.”

I have seen and experienced poverty, I do not need to go somewhere with a camera-man to know about poverty, Modi said adding that “We are concerned about the health of our labour. All their medical records will now be available online.”

He said that the government has come up with three important schemes to ensure social security for even the unorganised labour.

While addressing the event, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “Sluggish economy can’t create jobs, an overloading taxation system will not be able to create jobs.” (KNN Bureau)
