PMO sets deadline for Delhi-Meerut expressway along with 16 other key projects

A meeting of the Steering Group appointed by the Prime Minister to accelerate Infrastructure Investment in its first meeting has finalized deadlines with time lines for the intermediate steps for key infrastructure projects, said an official release.
While the deadline for Delhi-Meerut Expressway is March 15, 2014, Navi Mumbai Airport has been set for January 31, 2014. Similarly deadlines for 15 other projects have been stipulated to end by March 31, 2014.
“The progress on the intermediate steps will be monitored on a regular basis. The deadlines will ensure that Ministries/Departments are clear about not just the overall deadline but also all the intermediate steps that need to be completed so that there are no slippages,” the PMO said in a statement.
The principal secretary to the prime minister has directed all ministries and departments to nominate a nodal officer each of the rank of a joint secretary or above, who will report on a weekly basis on the progress of their department's projects, it said.
The names of the nodal officers sould be intimated to the prime minister's office by July-26.
Meanwhile, the release also said that while pursuing the three Expressways mentioned by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (Eastern Peripheral, Delhi-Meerut, Mumbai-Vadodara), it will also work on the financial model for the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway.
PMO also assured that in the Mumbai Elevated Rail Corridor Project, the issue of whether the request for proposal will be reissued will be resolved by the Ministry of Railways within a week.
Moreover, the highways ministry will also work on the financial model for the Delhi-Jaipur expressway. The pre-feasibility will be completed by mid-August.
Similarly, the Greenfield port project in Durgarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh would be awarded by March end while the government claims to bid Navi Mumbai airport by January.
According to the release, two ultra-mega power projects in Cheyyar (Tamil Nadu) and Bedabahal (Odisha) would be awarded by January end while several power transmission projects would be bid out during this fiscal.
The power ministry would try to award 13 identified transmission projects within timelines. Similarly civil aviation ministry would move ahead on Goa (Mopa) airport project besides awarding operation, maintenance and transfer contracts for 4-5 airports by the end of this fiscal year.
Furthermore, the ministry of railways will provide exact timelines on completion of the Khurja-Kanpur, Kanpur-Mughalsarai andMughalsarai-Sonnagar stretches. (KNN)
