New Delhi, May 28 (KNN) Power tariff in Delhi may be raised again as the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) is set to begin public hearing on pleas by the distribution companies to revise the tariff upward.

The Commission has invited public at large to participate in the public hearing which will be held for two days from 3 June.

The DERC has already received petitions from few power distribution companies which demanded substantial hike in tariff.

“BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), BSES Yamuna Power Limited  (BYPL) /Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have filed the Petition for approval of True-up for FY 2011-12, Review & Provisional True-up for FY 2012-13 and Aggregate Revenue Requirement and tariff for FY 2013-14 before the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission,” said Secretary, DERC in a notification.

Despite strong protests against rising power tariff in the national capital, the rates were revised.

The DERC had fixed 4.5 per cent fuel surcharge for BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd while for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd the surcharge was 3 per cent.

The hike in tariff was up to 1.5 per cent for consumers of all the three distribution companies as the surcharge for BYPL and BRPL was 3 per cent in the previous quarter while it was 1.5 per cent for TPDDL.

Earlier this month, DERC had held public hearing for fixing tariff for commercial category of consumers such as Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi International Airport Ltd, Railways and Government agencies.

The proposal for revision in power tariff comes at a time when Delhi is facing outages and Chief Minister Sheila Dixit has been conveying her displeasure over the outages. (KNN)
